Olga Muñoz Gómez

Senior Research Scientist at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA), CSIC, where I’ve been since 2007. My journey began with a PhD in physics, focusing on Jupiter’s atmosphere, before embarking on postdoctoral research in Amsterdam, where I delved into aerosol particle measurements and their impact on Earth’s radiative balance. Returning to Spain, I’ve dedicated myself to studying radiative transfer in planetary and cometary atmospheres, particularly focusing on light scattering by small dust particles.

At the forefront of my contributions is the establishment of the IAA-CODULAB, a cutting-edge laboratory dedicated to exploring the scattering behavior of cosmic dust particles. My work is focused in contributing significantly to our understanding of mineral dust particles in planetary and cometary atmospheres. Additionally, I am deeply engaged in collaborative efforts with international teams, including the ESA IPE collaboration, where I contribute to studying cosmic and atmospheric particle systems under microgravity.

Beyond my research endeavors, I am committed to mentoring and shaping the next generation of scientists. I’ve advised numerous PhD theses and mentored master’s interns and research visitors, fostering a culture of inquiry and innovation.
